Callerid and click to call
I'm currently looking into how to setup click to call and caller id with all my phone numbers.
Caller ID info
What I would like, is for every phone, tv, and computer in my home to annouce and display the incoming callers information. I would also like to be able to log the data so that I can review calls on my PC. Another feature that I would like to see in the future, is the ability to publish that I'm currently on the phone through my presence system (ie. instant messenger clients and other presence systems) this way people can know not to call and to either send a text message or leave a voicemail.
When the popup comes up on the PC it should show and say the incoming caller. If I'm currently on the phone and another person calls, I'd like to have the ability to
...more to come....
would love to have a Windows App that would display Call Status. It should be able to to update my Instant Messenger status to say if I was on the phone. If the phone is ringing, it should be able to show me a callerID popup, and preferrably have a button to send the person directly to voice mail, or forward them to a differetn number. If I'm already on the phone, and getting call waiting callerID, I should be able to put one call on hold, and answer the second call, or do other call management. (Send the new call to another line so a different family member can answer that call?) |

Looks like this is pretty straight forward to do using a TAPI compliant modem on the Windows OS. However, it pains me to think that I have to setup a modem to do caller id grabbing when the SIP packets are coming into my network with the caller id right in them!
Here are some utilities I've found so far.... of course they are free or have source included.
YAC - caller id program for windows, allows you to broadcast the information to multiple machines on your network.
Click to Call
If you haven't used click to call yet, you are missing out. I find that the more automated features I add to my daily life, the more spoiled and lazy I get. At this point, I am annoyed if I have to lookup a number and actually dial the numbers myself.
Click to call isn't a standard, so each provider has a different way of implementing it. Below is a list of some of the information I've found on the various providers.
Vonage click to call protocal. - explains what you need to do to programmatically use the Vonage Click to Call features.
Vonage click to call for firefox - extension for firefox that allows you to select text and call.
Another Vonage click to call for firefox - another extension choice for firefox vonage click to call. Page also has other utilities for vonage. Also works with thunderbird, which is very cool.
This is kind of fun to read from time to time, the vonage VoIP Feature Wish List. This is a nice place to read about what people would like to do with their VOIP provider.
