Using rock band drums for music creation.

My friend let me borrow the rock band 2 drumkit. But my kids are a bit too young to play still. I wish there were a way to just associate sounds and allow the kids to play around with creating music. Because the drum kit functions like a std. controller and MS gives us XNA it should be possible. Wheres the app at? Looking....

Soundfont and sampler stuff

FluidSynth - FluidSynth is a real-time software synthesizer based on the SoundFont 2 specifications.
Swami - Sampled Waveforms And Musical Instruments - is a collection of free software for editing and sharing MIDI instruments and sounds. Swami aims to provide cross platform (Linux, Windows and Mac OSX) instrument editing and sharing software for instrument formats such as SoundFont, DLS and GigaSampler.
libInstPatch – Swami - a shared library which handles instrument editing and also contains a reference implementation of CRAM for instrument compression.


Sample repositories

Resonance Instrument DB - Menu - database of free audio samples and instrument sounds and also provide a place for users to share their own creations. Currently supported file formats include: SoundFont 2, DLS and GigaSampler.
