Well I've been waiting and waiting for fiber optic to come to the masses. Today I finally have it. It is pretty darn fast! Right now I'm getting fiber internet service from Verizon. They provide 15M up and 2M down for under 40 bucks a month. Very very cool. Here is some screen shots of a speed test before and after. Goto: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ to see how you compare. Before with Comcast high speed internet: ![]() After with FiOS from Verizon Online. ![]() The FiOS install comes with some nice hardware. Inside there are 4 POTS ports, a coxial connector, and a RJ45 for network. Looks like Verizon is getting ready to offer video service soon. They install a Fiber muxer / network interface on the outside of the home. ![]() Then, on the inside there is a battery backup system, so if the power goes out you still have internet connection. ![]()
